Attention Training

Attention training

Mindfulness involves paying close attention to your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It’s about developing an awareness of your surroundings and what is going on within yourself. It improves your ability to be in the present moment, which helps in controlling your attention by not allowing your thoughts to wander.

Things that could occur in session would be various activities that focus on working memory, mindfulness, attention/focus, and distraction.

For example:

  • Working memory – Engaging in a memory card game, show certain pictures, say certain words, or lay out objects in a particular order and try to remember. This training aims to build up those areas of the brain that hold onto information long enough to accomplish a specific goal.
  • Mindfulness – Engage in activities that involve your senses to be present in the moment.  To learn to identify your emotions, to allow yourself the time needed to identify thoughts, emotions, and behaviors (observe, describe, and participate).
