Children and Adolescents, Anxiety, Depression, Social Skills

Helping children become the best version of themselves is truly my passion! It is extremely important to me that all children feel respected, valued, and appreciated. While serving in the role of a School Counselor for the past several years, I have had the wonderful privilege of working with children ranging in age
from four years old to fourteen years old. Every single child has a unique story to tell, and the way that I engage with the children varies based on their own special needs. Whether a child is having difficulty learning school subjects, would like assistance with social interactions, or wants to communicate with others more effectively, I thoroughly enjoy finding creative ways to empower, encourage and inspire children.

Knowing that there is no “right” way to achieve goals, I strive to challenge children to think outside the box and promote their sense of self-worth
while also pushing them to think in the “gray” as opposed to a more rigid “black
and white” way of thinking. Most of my experience thus far has been in the
school environment, and I am absolutely thrilled to be able to offer guidance to
an even broader population now in the evenings and during the weekends at
ECH Counseling in Crystal Lake!

When a child is struggling to cope with his or her emotions after experiencing a difficult life event such as a divorce in the family or a tragic situation such as a loss of a family member, I find it most helpful to first validate the child’s feelings, listen attentively to the child without any judgment, and then offer genuine comfort which will lead towards the path of healing. Perhaps one of the most
heartbreaking losses for a child is the loss of a furry family member (“pet”). As a “furmom” who has lost a “furbaby”, I do understand the profound impact of losing a loyal companion who has provided an indescribable amount of unconditional love and unwavering devotion. Numerous studies have shown that oxytocin (also known as the “love hormone”) plays a major role in humans’ relationships with animals. Unconditional love, loyalty, a zest for life, and forgiveness are only a few of the important lessons that animals teach humans. I would love to reinforce these valuable lessons through games, activities, and sharing stories.

Using various techniques including play therapy and behavioral therapy,
accompanied by a calm, compassionate and caring demeanor, I am excited to
partner with you to help your child reach his or her fullest potential. As a 2009
graduate of Saint Xavier University and a 2014 graduate of Lewis University, I
value education. More importantly, though, I value relationships. Finding a
therapist that your child trusts and connects with is of utmost importance. I look
forward to the privilege of partnering with you, building and maintaining a
meaningful connection with your child, actively listening, offering unconditional
positive regard, and making a positive difference in his or her life!
