Throughout my life, there has been a range of situations that have led me down the path of psychology.
As I grew up with congenital cataracts, I realized how so many different factors could impact our mental health. I really didn’t understand how much it impacted mine until the day I had eye surgery when I was in my late 20s.
While in high school, my psychology teacher really drew me in, the class intrigued me and set me on my way.
I started my career as an elementary school teacher. However, the more I interacted with the students, families, and teachers over the years, I recognized the need for more resources, especially counseling.
Currently, I am a school psychologist. Over the years, I have felt confined to psychoeducational testing and eligibility reviews for students. So, I went back to graduate school for my Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
I have worked as a counselor in the clinical setting over the last five years and also in a hospital setting. As a professional counselor, I feel like I can make a difference. Becoming a licensed counselor has benefited me in many ways. I have been able to manage the demands placed on school psychologists and I feel greatly rewarded with the feedback I get from counseling clients.
I primarily work with children and up who are experiencing anxiety, depression, issues related to trauma, and executive functioning disorders (Spectrum and ADHD). I have experience working with clients with developmental delays or developmental disorders and learning difficulties.
