The 3 Rs that could help one manage their anxiety are actionable skills and strategies:
-Recognize: Identify when feeling anxious and observe any physical signs or behaviors that may be present. Recognize it is a chemical reaction.
-Relax: Engage in relaxation techniques such as deep breathing to increase oxygen to the brain, progressive muscle relaxation to decrease tension, or guided imagery. Overall, these skills help decrease cortisol which in the end slows down the fight or flight response.
-Redirect: Refocus on the present moment and engage in activities that could help to reduce anxiety – To be mindful and deflect the energy.
We can manage our anxiety more effectively by identifying the anxiety, utilizing relaxation skills, and redirecting/reframing the worries.
