Mindfulness allows one to focus on the moment which in the end has the following benefits
(along with many others):
*Reduces stress – Research has shown that mindfulness reduces activity in the amygdala, the brain’s region that triggers the release of stress hormones.
*Improves cognition – Research has shown increased cognitive efficiency on tasks that required sustained attention.
*Supports working memory – Research has shown mindfulness can increase our short-term memory capacity.
*Decreased emotional reactivity – Research has shown individuals engaging in mindfulness are able to disengage from emotionally upsetting situations and think more logically, not running with emotions.
*Manage chronic pain – Research showed mindfulness contributed to a small decrease in chronic pain.
*May help lower blood pressure – Mindfulness can help to reduce hypertension in adults.
